Hi, I'm Will. I made DialedIn. Here's exactly what happens with your data — no jargon.

The short version

Guest users: everything stays on your device and never leaves it. If you create an account, your brew sessions, coffee library, and equipment are backed up to the cloud so you don't lose them. I don't track you, sell your data, or run ads.

Guest mode — everything stays on your device

If you use DialedIn without an account, all your data — brew sessions, grind sizes, water temps, coffee amounts, ratings, tasting notes, equipment — is stored locally on your device only. I have no access to it. If you delete the app, it's gone.

Optional account — what gets backed up

You don't need an account to use DialedIn. All core features work without one.

If you create an account, the following data is backed up to the cloud so you don't lose it if you switch devices or reinstall:

  • Profile preferences — display name, brewing method, temperature unit, favorite origin, favorite roaster
  • Equipment list — your machines and grinders
  • Coffee library — bean names, roasters, origins, roast levels, tasting notes, costs
  • Brew sessions — grind size, water temp, amounts, brew time, ratings, notes, dates

You can sign up with an email and password, or use Sign in with Apple. For Apple sign-in, Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real one — I store whatever Apple provides. Your Apple credentials are managed entirely by Apple; I never see your Apple password.

Cloud data is stored on Supabase, transmitted over HTTPS/TLS, with row-level security so only you can access your own data. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.

Donations

DialedIn is free with no ads, paywalls, or premium tiers. If you choose to support the app, donations are handled through Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee. Donations happen entirely on their websites — I never see your payment details and no financial data is collected or stored by the app.

Equipment requests

If you submit a request to add new equipment to the app, I collect the equipment name, category, brand, your user ID, and email. I use this only to review and prioritize what to add next. You can request deletion of your submitted requests at any time.

What I don't collect

  • Your location
  • Your contacts
  • Device identifiers or fingerprints
  • Crash reports or diagnostics
  • Analytics or behavioral tracking data
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Anything from other apps on your device

Camera permission is declared in the app for a future barcode scanning feature but is not currently active and no camera data is collected.

No advertising networks. No analytics platforms. No social media SDKs.

I don't sell your data to anyone. Ever.

Data retention

  • Local data — stays on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its data
  • Account data — retained until you request deletion; email me and I'll take care of it
  • Equipment requests — retained for product development; email me to request deletion

Your rights

You can use DialedIn without an account. Your local data is always accessible within the app. To delete your account or any cloud-stored data, just email me.

California residents (CCPA): I don't sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

EU/EEA residents (GDPR): The legal basis for processing is your consent. You have the right to access, correct, erase, and port your data, and to withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.

Children

DialedIn isn't directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think your child has created an account, email me and I'll delete it right away.

Changes

If I make meaningful changes to this policy, I'll update the date above. Nothing here will change in a way that surprises you.
